Quote from John O'Donohue in Eternal Echoes:

"part of the task of maturity is to become free of one's parents. Clinging to parents causes a destructive imbalance in one's life. One never achieves an integral sense of self-possesion if one's parents continue to dominate large regions of one's heart. To grow is to know their fragility, vulnerability and limitations."

That's interesting, because it seems to encapsulate something I've been trying to pin down for years, and been expressing badly as "moving out of home is good for you".

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] bardiphouka for the quote...

more than welcome of course. I recommend the author often (having gone through 9 copies of Anam Cara and thinking about buying Eternal Echoes).
