So, today, apart from illness related events, I have been mostly playing Everquest. My brain isn't up to normal operation at the moment, so no writing or anything. Getting EQ going has been a fair saga; on the first copy I got, the account key had already been used, and I did a very slow back and forth with various support people before getting tired of it, and taking the CD back to the shop and exchanging it. And then the new one would not run on this machine. However, it runs on Nina's machine, so it's installed there now.

So, any other EQ players about? What servers do you play on? I have a pile of questions about playing the game, mostly centred on figuring out what equipment you can actually use before you buy it, but I'm going to try looking for answers on the web first.

I just watched an episode of Voyager, which was the best example ever of a cheap-ass production. The sets used were Voyager itself, a "stasis chamber" which looked like it was from Doctor Who, and an anonymous bit of California desert. There were about ten extras, only four of whom had speaking parts - the others literally shrugged or grimaced when they would otherwise have spoken. There was mention of "beautiful cities", but the visits to them happened off-stage. There was the possibility of staying on this particular planet, and not one crew member took it, pretty obviously so that they wouldn't have to refer to the episode ever again. It was pretty dreadful, and the fearsome thing is that it was better than the other episodes I've seen in the last few days.

OK, Threshold of Ages is not going to be a running concern, on or off-line. Therefore, I propose to start a new campaign - I'm posting this outside the ToA filter so that new people who'd like to play can get in. It'll run every second Thursday, approximately, and assuming one or more residents of the house in Capel Street are playing, it'll be there, otherwise here in Ranelagh. It'll be D&D, somewhere between 3E and 3.5 - mostly on 3.5, for which I'll provide the PHB. Alternately, you can get your own copy for just short of 30 euro in Fourth Dimension, the gaming shop in the basement of Third Place, which is open at weekends. Plug plug.

The setting will be my own campaign world of Davon, now becoming familiar to some of the players, I hope. You can read some about it in [livejournal.com profile] davonian. It'll be either a current-era setting, in which case events in it will be subject to the epic lead campaign, Age of Legends, or in the era 4600 years previously - read about that in [livejournal.com profile] olddavonian. In the 4600BP era, the existing campaign, Kingfisher's Way, will probably not have much impact. The kind of campaign - urban, wilderness, plot-heavy, plot-lite, combat-focussed, angsty, political, or what-have-you - will be decided by the players. If the players decision on the kind of campaign doesn't fit either time period, we can possibly open a third one, although I'd prefer to avoid that.

I'm looking for players who will make it to most games, have at least a basic grasp of the rules - particularly if thier characters are to be spellcasters or psions - can concentrate well for the few hours on a Thursday evening, and can deal with some degree of out-of-game material, be it email or lj. I'll want background information for each PC, and before we start, we'll work out how the group came together. My games tend more toward plot than not, so that'll have to be taken into account too.

So, who's interested?
