It's odd what certain items of clothing do for me. Suits, now, I can leave. I appreciate that they make me look good, and sometimes that's nice, and I know ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
inannajones likes them. But they don't do anything for me directly. My kilt is a really comfortable piece of kit, once I get the shoulder settled, and I need to look for more opportunities to wear it. But again, no mental state change.
However, I used to own a pair of Swedish Army boots, built in 1975. They had square toes, wooden blocks in the soles, and were well capable of kicking down a brick wall. I hitch-hiked in them for three years, and they made me feel like a demigod. They eventually fell to bits, and had to be disposed of, and I maintain to this day that that makes me harder than the Swedish Army.
I haven't felt this in a while.
But it was cold and wet this morning, and so I brought out the Coat.inannajones got me the Coat for my birthday, and it's only had one outing before, when I had a cold. The cold evidently prevented me from feeling the effects. Now, the Coat is a naval sorta thang, and it forces your spine straight when you put it on by hauling back on your shoulders. That helps some with the whole clearheadedness. But then I caught sight of my reflection in a bus shelter, and I jumped. I thought things like "Woah". Anyone who knows me will know that, unlike certain members of my family, I am largely indifferent to my own reflection. But this morning, I was mildly captivated by it for a few minutes. And since then, I have been on a veritable crusade of straight-talkin', tellin' it like it is, and not takin' no nonsense from nobody.
My self esteem, Gods know, was not in need of work. But today, I will stand toe to toe with anyone you choose, and I will tell them exactly where they fucked up. And they might even listen to me.
