gothwalk: (weather)

There was frost this morning, the first frost I've seen this year. It's struggling to get up over 5°C out there. And it's to drop below freezing on Sunday morning. Finally! Proper November weather!

Bugger.

I don't like frost or ice. It makes my bike slip and slide, and makes it not fun to ride, just scary and dangerous.

You're in Birmingham. Your inversion layer is about three times as powerful as Dublin's, and even with Britain's larger mass, you're unlikely to get ice and stuff.

On the other hand, I could be talking bollox. http://www.metcheck.com/48hrforecast.asp?lat=53&lon=-3&locationID=23&Arr=163&Country=UK&Coastal= thinks it's a good idea not to take the bike out on Saturday night.

My breath steamed walking for the bus this morning! It's great.

Actually, since you hail from the same part of the country, you might be able to tell me this. Are there far fewer frosts in Dublin than in Ballycadden/Lackendara? I know there's an inversion layer, and I know we're closer to the sea here, and much lower down, but I really didn't think it would make as much difference. Looking at the weather records, the difference is only a few degrees, but it seems to be the relevant few degrees when it comes to frost. Or am I just imagining things when I think there were more frosts at home?

Some of it is probably subjective, because we had to catch the bus stupidly early in the morning, and when it arrived was pretty random, so there was plenty of standing around watching your neighbour's snot crystallise. I'm guessing you're doing that less in the shmoke.

But, humm, yeah, I think there probably are fewer frosts here. I'll tell you in March, after I've spent a winter leaving the house at seven :-) .
