No Auth

.. and to forestall more questions, no, no authorisation was done at the weekend. Thorfinn didn't know I was coming, and wasn't prepared to do the authorisation properly. Sir Michael let me play in the melees anyway, and I did as much training as anyone else there, so it didn't make any difference. And it was great.

there were 6 (in words six) authorising marshals there and they couldn't authorise? I like Thorfinn, but this is getting ridiculous ....

I'm not quite sure why it didn't go through. Sir Arafel called people over to do the authorisation, and I think that might have been the first Thorfinn heard of it. Then there was some confusion as to whether I knew what was a legal target area, and what wasn't. Thorfinn was looking for the exact wording of the rules, and Richard was getting me to demonstrate. Around then, Thorfinn said that he wouldn't do an authorisation then, but when everyone was prepared for it. He and Cernac discussed it for a bit, and that devolved into a discussion of reports from Ireland.

I went over the rules with Richard later on, and he seemed happy that I know what I'm talking about. Sir Arafel has volunteered himself and Thorfinn to come over and do authorisation, if we can organise a mutually agreeable weekend a bit in advance, and everyone seemed happy with that suggestion.

Ummm, who's Richard? I mean I know *a* Richard but if he's who I think he is, he's not an authorising Marshal anyway.

Frankly, I'm with Arpad on this, knights should be prepared to authorise people and there were 5 of them here. Although I think they have this silly rule that you can only authorise at Official events, which clearly this wasn't.

*sigh* Thankfully you had a great time :)

Late Summer wasn't in the DT, but it was official for insurance... Hmmm... This one might not have counted since it wasn't on a webpage, I don't think.

So, this kingdom doesn't authorise at fighter practise, eh? I keep learning. :)

If it did, I would probably have been able to authorise in heavy a long time ago...

Richard is an authorising marshal in training. He can't authorise, he was just helping out, which I appreciate greatly.

Well, that's good, but I don't understand. Someone was authorised at Michael's land last September at Late Summer Tourney -- Thorfinn wasn't even there. Master Paul (laurel, but but also an authorising marshall), Viscount Michael (a knight, albeit still kind of new to the kingdom then) and Sir Arafel were there...

I wonder... Did they not think you were ready? Hmmm... I wonder...

That's possible, I suppose. I don't know if they'd seen enough to know that - gods know my training has been pretty spotty so far - but why wouldn't they say that, then, instead of the whole "not prepared" thing? Unless I'm suffering serious communication difficulties, and that's what they did mean...
