Rob destroys far fewer socks now that I remind him to trim his toenails, make sure he doesn't boil-wash or fire-dry the socks (thereby removing all the stretchiness) and check that he wears shoes which don't rub.

It used to take about a month to destroy a new, not-cheap sock.
