Why can't these scripts do the same thing from one day to the next? How can something on a remote machine work when I kick it off, but not when someone else does? And why don't people tell me when they change things, as someone must have done?

It's a bit more remote than that - it's a button on a web form. Same for everyone, no path, no permissions. This is windows gunk, anyways...

And you'd think that would work. It turned out to be an arcance combination of a missing table in a database, a cache, and an old DNS record. I'm not sure of the details.
