Well yes, and that's a big motivation for me. Unfortunately someone has managed to imply (well, I say 'imply', flat out state) that people who are coming primarily to see Neil are coming for the wrong reasons and don't understand what cons are about.
There are always cliques. At this stage in my career, though, I have become completely immune to clique-ism except insofar as it keeps the people I don't want to deal with in one convenient bundle.
I've only met Neil and Charlie once, and Charlie was a while ago (walking down a street in Edinburgh with zotz, who's known him for years, back in about '99. But they're both lovely.
Hey, if you're looking for something to say to Neil, you could ask him from me when he's going to get in touch with Nikki about his Harry Clarke print :>

Come along, and we'll make you welcome. And you'll get to laugh at me becoming utterly tongue-tied when confronted with Neil Gaiman and China MiƩville. I can just about hold together a conversation with Charlie Stross.

Someone who thinks that coming to a SF convention to see SF authors isn't what cons are about is, well, truly special.
However, you can take comfort that you won't see this person at the con, since they're so far up their own arse they'll be invisible.

I cannot STAND the idea that there is only One Twue Way to approach something as big as a convention.
