vIMC Agenda

The virtual International Medieval Congress starts tomorrow and runs until Friday. There's a slightly terrible interface through which one is to participate in it. In theory, it lets you set up your agenda of panels and other stuff to attend. It is sloooow already, so I've taken the precaution of setting my own agenda tonight.

I really, really enjoyed when I attended it in Leeds a couple of years ago, and while the virtual version won't be the same, I feel it should still be pretty good.

We really have different interests. I found 2 session in your list that I want to attend as well. I`m still struggling with several instances of interesting sessions that take place at the same time. How do you decide?

I toss a coin. If I'm satisfied with the outcome, grand; if not, I choose the other one.

On the interests, when I was at the offline one a few years ago, one of the other AH folk with whom I share a lot of interests was there as well. His area of interest is Viking trade networks, and tracing them via archaeological findings of beads, and he's interested in agriculture and food too. We were not in the same session once all week.

I've teed up some things, as well. I'll be working, sadly, so will have to fit them in a bit ad-hoc. The keynote/intro, this morning, was a bit of a shambles.

I managed to get in to the Medieval and Renaissance Music conference hosted by the University of Edinburgh, last week - much smaller, but still quite interesting!

I'm feeling like the Academic I Could Have Been...

I am an Independent Scholar. Apart from having to pay for conferences myself, and not having access to a good library, it often works out better than being a Real Academic.

I didn't even try to attend the keynote; I was pretty sure that having thousands of people try to attend one session as the very first bit of the conference was just not going to work.
