(no subject)

I can tell when four o'clock rolls around, without looking at a clock. That's when my brain just stops working. Anything done after that happens in a kind of mental slow motion. I used to think it was the coffee running down, but I have a decent sized mug of good, almost-cold coffee here, and it isn't making one whit of difference.

There's a Vodafone ad up in Opera at the minute. It's in German. It says "Style Dein Handy! Mit über 2500 Top-logos und vielem mehr!". I find this amusing, thus demonstrating the brain-shut-down-ness mentioned above.

Between 3 and 5 pm the hormones in the body reach their lowest point in a 24 hour cycle. This is why many (American) employers prefer workers to come to work at 7am, and leave by 3:30. That way they don't lose productivity at the end of the day. Instead, you get loopy and adle-brained whilst driving home. At about 5 you should start feeling better, and probably forget that you had been run-down. This is also the most dangerous time of the day in some respects. Majority of spouse and child-abuse takes place between 3 and 5. That's when we are most cranky.

Woah. I feel rather dim now for not having noticed it before. What's the best thing to do with it? Sleep?

I don't know what the best thing to do is. A nap doesn't hurt, unles you are the type that gets groggy for the rest of the evening. Sometimes I use coffee, but that only seems to put off the dip for an hour or two. I suspect the best thing to do is ride it out. Or identify when you are most productive (me: 7pm or so) and reserve your most important stuff until then. I usually don't structure my life around it though. I just ride it out. Although often I'll run or gym at that time. It's harder to exercise each day whenyou are feeling the most weak and cranky, but by the time you are done, you'll be on the upswing. The hazards of being a primate, eh?

If you mean why your lebido peaks at the gym, there could be several reasons for that. All conjecture. Exercise stimulates certain hormones, including testosterone (which makes females, as well as males horny). You could also be smelling phermones from other people's persperation.

If you mean when you are tired, I'd guess that your inhibitions drop a little when you are tired. But I'm not a doctor, I just talk too much.

That was roughly my schedule when I started doing tech support, and I was constantly on the edge of falling asleep on my commute home. Which was especially not good considering I had just gotten my driver's license, and was not that great of a driver yet.
