It's warm today - 19°C or so, at a guess, maybe a little more. I'm in a room with seven computers and no air conditioning. There are roadworks outside, and people coming in and out to ask me questions. I have some choices:
1) Leave windows closed - not be deafened and annoyed by roadworks, roast.
2) Open windows - be deafened, but at a decent temperature.
3) Open windows, put on earphones, play music, not be deafened, be at a decent temperature, but leap four feet into the air anytime anyone taps me on the shoulder because I can't hear them coming.
What would you do?
