(This is Irish politics; it won't make much sense to anyone else)

I have one question about the protest march on Saturday, and it goes like this: Where the hell was Fine Gael? I know Enda Kenny was asking the Taoiseach to clarify his position on Thursday last, but that seems to me to be more a case of politically expident kicking the man when he looks like might be down. Kenny wasn't exactly stating his own position.

There was no Fine Gael representation in the march, not one banner. Labour was there. Sinn Fein was there. The Spartacists were there. I was there. But the second biggest party in Ireland had nobody there at all.

There is absolutely nothing on the Fine Gael site about Iraq.

And Fine Gael is supposed to be the opposition? They're becoming more and more indistinguishable from Fianna Fail day by day, most particularly when they don't say a word about an issue that provoked the biggest protests in Ireland in over twenty years.

Frankly, that sucks.

I was thinking just the same. When do you ever see pictures of him in the news campaigning about issues? When do you see anyone from Fine Gael on the news etc etc? Not a lot, if ever.

I think FG are finished - totally irrelevant in modern day politics. As younger voters come on stream, they will garner less and less votes, unless Fianna Fáil do something totally distasteful that provokes a massive backlash against them, and sees most of their voters going to Fine Gael instead.

They're a bunch of losers, and kenny is the worst of the lot of them. He has the political presence of a wet slice of bread and the charisma to match. Hell, he manages to ask the taoiseach the question we all want to ask "can't you answer a straight question?" and it's some sort of major achievement for him.
If they had a pair of balls between the entire party they could and should be nailing ahern to the wall for all this but nothing is happening. I hold them just as responsible for this whole debacle as FF. I mean, the march on friday most likely acomplished absolutely nothing (hands up who honestly believes Ahern gives a damn) but FG are in the position to be making a real difference and they're failing us all over the place. Pansies....
