Something that's bemusing me. The Rest of the WorldTM put the clocks forward last weekend, and nobody anywhere remarked on it, except me, because I run a website for a largely American audience, and so have to adjust things. And this weekend, the USA changed, and suddenly my friends list, mailing list, and everything is full of people giving out about it. Now, since this is an instance of Americans out-whinging the Irish, something heretofore thought impossible, I'm curious. What's the problem with summer time?

No-one it seems likes the mess-about of it all. You get used to getting up when it's sunny, then all of a sudden, you're getting up in the dark, or vice-versa depending on the time of year. It's silly, helps nobody.

I wasn't thrilled last week when I had to get up in the dark again. And we were bad planners -- we were married that weekend --so our wedding weekend, plus anniversaries, will involve it. But we've gotten over it. :) Last year was the worst. We went to the US on our honeymoon, so we had to deal with it TWICE.

it has no real benefit

imo, of course. And causes a lot of hassle. In Stansted last week, none of the screens were updated for the hour change and every single flight had multiple people miss it, between that, the security queues and the new Ryanair timetable all on the same day.

It's just a nuisance, and so stupid. It benefits no one. I've yet to hear a coherent reason for it that stands up to any analysis.

And I hate losing an hour of sleep. :)

And yes, we Yanks are great whingers.

I don't know, I mean, though it's annoying to have to get up earlier, I'm generally pretty happy about having time after work when it's light enough out that I can go do outdoorsy things. But I know I'm weird.

It saves energy (mostly in the form of lighting) in the summer evenings.

I had always been told that it was done to give school children more evening daylight to work on the farm, but apparently it was actually originally a joke of Ben Franklin's (http://webexhibits.org/daylightsaving/franklin.html) that got taken seriously. Go figure.

It's fine...

...as long as everyone plays along. Bloody Arizona (except for the Navajo of course).
