It's looking summery out there, and I'm starting to think about running a few extra games, one-offs and short pieces, during the coming summer. I have no shortage of ideas, so some guidance on what people would like would be great. I think everything is self-explanatory, except possibly for "Tac-tech", by which I mean sci-fi with an emphasis on starship combat, battlemechs, or the like.

[Poll #124343]

If you've any further ideas, requests, or orders, please comment. These will definitely be one-off things - no new campaigns!

I've never run White Wolf stuff - I've no idea of the rules... but anything I'm running will be advertised here anyway.

I'll probably end up using the d20 rules for whatever the games turn out to be, and probably not concentrating on them too much anyway - more on setting and plot.

Summer

Ooh, ooh, ohh - Victorian Steam-punk ala Castle Falkenstein or Victoriana.

I went ahead and answered your poll, though sadly there's not much chance i'll be able to participate in one of your games this summer. ;) I voted for: victorian/gaslight, modern, and/or alternate history. Any appropriate combination of those elements would be pretty cool, methinks. Were I playing in your game, the biggest thing I'd ask for is - make me feel the game. I want to cry, I want to scream, I want to sigh with relief when it's over; I'd like for the DM to play my emotions like a cheap ukelele.

I've recently dropped out of my last game weekly, which was a D20 Modern campaign that was based on similar precepts as final fantasy 7 for playstation1. It was pretty interesting and fairly fun; but the group I was playing with just started to devolve into a constant peanut gallery, and I'm beginning to believe that the DM was fairly unprepared most nights. When my schedule started filling up with school and work and I stopped having fun on friday nights at game, I decided it was time to call it quits. With my time so limited, I felt that I could very much put it to better use.

Don't let that happen to your players!

Ok, I'm not intending to lecture on DM theory and practice, sorry. :) Just venting a bit on my own situation, and hoping to give you some inspiration to make a really kick-ass game this summer.

But i do hope that you avoid doing to someone what the DM and other players did to me - I'd come and end up sitting in the corner while the rest of the players yakked about nothing constantly, with myself just wanting to advance the story and see what would happen. I'd leave tired from sitting in a small room for 4-5 hours having barely said anything. It was like I could see the storyline on the highway, looking like a ferrari doing 10mph; and it was getting passed by a guy on a moped shouting 'get a move on already!'

How bout an all nighter horror-ish genre (ish because i know you said you don't do horror). But timed so it begins when the sun sets, and finishes at dawn. Maybe a good setting for post-apocalyptic?

Interesting. It's tough to time the end of a game... but I'd imagine that it could be done if things were modular enough; you could add or remove modules as you ran the game, continuously re-estimating time to end... hm.
