I just got word that a B- donor has been found, via word passed out over LJ and mailing lists, in Austin, Texas. A long way to go, but all seems to be well - they've been in touch, and arrangements are being made for a transfusion. The patient passes on her thanks to all of you who helped get the word out.

Ok, at this point I'm beginning to suspect you originally meant *bone marrow* when you spoke of needing B- donors. We don't take blood from America. We don't need to. However the Bone Marrow donor register is international. It has to be to get an exact match.

Am very glad one was found though. The young lad I spoke of died at the weekend. But we knew from the products they were beginning to authorise for him that he was going to.

Could be. "Transfusion" was mentioned, which isn't the term for marrow, though, is it? No matter, right person found.

Re:

No, transplant is the term for marrow, but people can make mistakes. All I can say is we don't take blood from America. We take plasma, but since AFAIK all that's used for is volume it's not going to be of much help to a leukaemia patient. Bone marrow transplants however are what leukaemia patients get.

I'm just interested from a professional point of view. I'd love to know what the deal is/was.
