Friends, Gaels, Countrymen... lend me your names!

My SCA persona needs a surname. Irish, preferably tracable to sometime between 1000 and 1600 CE, although I'll take earlier, not being too picky. The first name is "Aodh", already well on its way to being "Ed" because a certain Canadian can't manage the "dh".

Ideas?

Um. It's really hard to describe. You sort of lisp the d?

In terms of mouth shape, if you say "Aod" the tongue touches the roof of the mouth just behind the front teeth. Instead, put it between the teeth, so that the "d" isn't as sharp. Or something like that.

names

I had a friend of mine in college with the name Aodh and he pronounced it Ay (as in hay). My personal favorite of those type of irish names is a girls name Aoibheal ( pronouced evil - she was cute too).

Irish surname from 1000?

O'Laochadh!
(the O has a fada, but I can't get an O with a fada!)

*grin*
The name originates in the West to South West of the country, (anyone saying that it is not an Irish name will be slapped!)

Use it with pride, cos you'll be one of us!
