I appear to have no software whatsoever that can do a jpg to gif change. In fact, I appear to have nothing that does "save as .gif". How bizarre.

Ummm, Photoshop - File / Save As Web - that should
do it.

I have Photoshop 6.0 and Imageready 3.0. The save for web option did it, though. Now why do they have that separate from the normal save dialogue? No matter, sorted now. Cheers!

Well if you're using photoshop you'll have to convert your image from an RGB to "indexed" in order to save it as a .gif.

OTOH something like M$ Photoeditor should let you save an image as any common format without problem.

Not the most sophisticated program I know, but Paint (available on most PCs in the Accessories menu) lets you open the file in .gif, .jpg or .btm (whatever the one for bitmap is ;*), and then Save As another format.

Since the folks that owned the gif algorithm decided to start charging through the nose for it, a lot of programs have ripped out their gif functionality.

Having said that, "convert" (available on most *nix platforms) is fucking magic. I mean, how easy can it be to make a movie from frames?

I personally use Paint Shop Pro 6 for most of my graphics work, and it handles a lot of formats under it's belt.

This thing was for an icon, where nothing but a gif would do.
