I am currently engaged in the subtle art of candle trimming. This consists of tracking down a number of candles which are too wide (so that the wick develops a pit for itself, into which it vanishes, rather than burning evenly down) and trimming away with a knife the walls of the pit. Evidently, there is an optimum width for candles; I'm amazed that candle makers have not yet realised this.

Party & Presents )

And by the time we got up this morning, [livejournal.com profile] puritybrown had done all the necessary post-party cleaning and tidying, which is very much appreciated.

There is a good feeling of autumn in the air; I'm fostering this by burning candles and thinking about cooking, in a lesirely manner. The new books and other presents help with this too - by now, I'm beginning to associate them with autum and winter. And the cat is completely crashed out on a folded duvet that was down for people to sit on last night; this is almost as autumnal as if she were curled up in a basket. I'm going to be going on about the season for a few weeks now; I like it and it feels more than usual.

Kicked off by a post by [livejournal.com profile] one_woman_army, I've made a list of the herbs and spices in our kitchen.

List of stuff )

Hey, it pleases me. List and herbs.
