It appears that the "transcript" of Hans Blix' report to the UN security council was edited before posting by CNN, at least with comparison to the BBC one. See this story on Kuro5hin.

CNN Version

BBC Version

While the kuro5hin writer says that it could be accidental, I'm personally left wondering. They look like two very different statements to me, and the one posted by CNN is very much in favour of the pro-war people.

Valentine's Night

I met [livejournal.com profile] inannajones in Ballsbridge, and we betook ourselves to Bellamy's pub until such time as the restaurant was ready for us. I gave her her presents, and was pleased with the reaction, and then opened mine. Greater love hath no non-smoking woman than to give her husband cigars. And not just any cigars, but good, hand-made, individually wrapped these-are-not-your-uncle's-coronas cigars. And a cigar cutter. And Remy Martin cognac chocolates. Damn good stuff.

Dinner was in The French Paradox, which is hereinafter dubbed the BEST Restaurant in Dublin.

And afterwards we decamped to the Library Lounge in Jury's, wherein I offered the loan of the cigar cutter to a gentleman at the next table (well, at the end of ours, but it was a long table), and he said "one good turn deserves another", and handed me an extra cigar, a Romeo y Julieta Havana. Instant karmic return. Pleasedness. And Remy Martin XO is a very nice cognac. And the cigars were proven very very good.

Saturday: Protest

100,000 people. City centre completely full. I think that proves the point. More on the whole thing, Irish politics included, in another entry.

Saturday: Moving

We moved over the last of the stuff from Mount Argus with help from Dad, except for a very few odds and ends. The freezer and the dishwasher have been sent into storage, and the barbeque is lurking in the front garden until we move it back - this evening.

Sunday

[livejournal.com profile] olethros and I sorted through vast piles of boxes, made order from chaos in the kitchen and the music room, and then did some of the same in the sitting room, sorting books into the proper divisions (fiction, non-fiction, computer, travel & humour, books that [livejournal.com profile] olethros will never read).

In the evening, [livejournal.com profile] inannajones and I went over to Mount Argus to meet the old landlord, hand over keys (those that I didn't lose three hours beforehand) and make final arrangements and take away final stuff, so we're finally completely moved.

And then we went home, showered, got Indian takeaway and relaxed for a bit. Morrowind is terrfiyingly more effective when the monitor is right in front of you and the room is dark.

Monday

We're going to have a good go at sorting out everything else tonight, putting it away, and deciding what debatable bits are to go. And then we'll be done.
(This is Irish politics; it won't make much sense to anyone else)

I have one question about the protest march on Saturday, and it goes like this: Where the hell was Fine Gael? I know Enda Kenny was asking the Taoiseach to clarify his position on Thursday last, but that seems to me to be more a case of politically expident kicking the man when he looks like might be down. Kenny wasn't exactly stating his own position.

There was no Fine Gael representation in the march, not one banner. Labour was there. Sinn Fein was there. The Spartacists were there. I was there. But the second biggest party in Ireland had nobody there at all.

There is absolutely nothing on the Fine Gael site about Iraq.

And Fine Gael is supposed to be the opposition? They're becoming more and more indistinguishable from Fianna Fail day by day, most particularly when they don't say a word about an issue that provoked the biggest protests in Ireland in over twenty years.

Frankly, that sucks.

I would like to propose two new contractions for English, since they're already in daily use by yours truly.

withe - "with the"
son - "so on"

They might possibly be better as "wi'the" and "so'n", but that's not how I type them...

Excellent. The very comfy leather-ish tilt-and-swing-and-do-stuff chair I ordered via work is arriving tomorrow. Now all I have to do is figure out how to get it home (taxi on Wednesday, most likely) and my mastery of the computing environment is complete.

[livejournal.com profile] whitecrow0 is auctioning more stuff - piles and piles of jewellery, this time. I can put in bids for anyone in Dublin who doesn't have a paypal account...
