Thinking of posting to lj is not the same as posting; there is still a barrier between thought and effect. That would be why I'm not getting comments at the moment. I have a list (an actual physical list) of things I want to post about, but if work remains as randomly busy as it is, it'll have to wait until I have some spare time - which looks like being Saturday evening, or perhaps some time on Sunday.

Meantime, I have a few minutes while someone makes up their mind which of two graphics they want, and while they're at it, I observe that my handwriting is doing strange things again.

While my writing is always recognisably mine - and reasonably decent, clear writing it is too - it undergoes strange changes from time to time. I long ago changed from the British numeral 7, for instance, to the European 7, with the crossbar. But all efforts to move to the European 1, with the rising start line, have failed, because it still looks like 7 to me. And around the time I was trying that, my capital I manifested a fish on top. I kid you not, it had a miniature fish, in the Christian style, coming away from it, nose pointed left.

These days, I'm noticing that my numeral 1 is doing odd stuff. Because it occurs so much in filenames, which are my major written down thing, on the postits and sheets of A4 that litter my desk and form glacier-shaped piles to either side of me, I have to distinguish it clearly from the letter l. So it has now developed a kind of footer loop, and a wee flick at the top.

What made me notice all this, though, was the .gif file type. It's the most common string of letters I write, and it has disintegrated and reformed into this rather nice Arabic-looking sigil, entirely readable as "gif" if you see it after a dot, but mysterious and sinuous when isolated, not like anything in English or even the Roman alphabet.

I should really handwrite more.

[livejournal.com profile] kobold mentioned running a single-player play-by-email D&D game a few weeks ago. I've been mulling over the idea, and I've decided I want to do one. But here's the odd bit - I want to play, not run it.

Anyone out there willing to run something for me?
