We're back from Galway. We've actually been back since Sunday afternoon, but I've not found time between then and now to post here. [livejournal.com profile] inannajones has written far more ably than I about Galway here.

Yesterday was mostly spent on OU stuff, interrupted very pleasantly by the arrival of a parcel from [livejournal.com profile] springinautumn, containing two very nice maps (she knows I like maps) and a copy of The Pillow Book of Sei Shonagon. Thank you very very much!

In the evening, I went out to Arthur's place to work on armour. I arrived there at half past six, and didn't leave until nearly eleven, but my helm is now much better. It used to be strapped from two points inside, with a buckle on the left, and a split leather patch going over the chin. Arthur showed me a much more comfortable - and I think safer - way to strap it, with one strap hung high and forward in the helm, coming down under the chin, and another going in front of the chin, below the mouth, exiting the helm through a slot in either side, and buckling at the back and slightly to the right. The two straps are sewn together like a bridle where they cross. Well, I say like a bridle - chances are that bridles are more neatly stitched than I can manage.

But anyway, it's all ready for tonight; Arthur is hauling it back in to the practice hall for me, and with any luck, I'll be in full hitting things mode this evening.
