gothwalk: (hope springs eternally from my fist)

[livejournal.com profile] inannajones and I are intending to spend a good chunk of the day in front of the Live 8 concert being broadcast from Hyde Park in London. We've also got laptops here, so expect a fair bit of posting.

One of the major parts of Live 8 is the petition. Sign Here.

I'd like Live 8 to make a difference, and it's having the effect it's supposed to here at least - I'm thinking about the issues it's raising, poverty and global economies. There are some rumblings going on in the back of my head about the notion of anti-globalisation movement, which strikes me as a set of concepts that isn't going anywhere. I'd like to know what it's about before I dismiss it altogether. So tell me about it, please?

Good grief, Bill Gates just walked on stage...

Two artworks I'd like to draw your attention to you, while you're all thinking about my previous questions.

.queen.of.the.eternity by noah-kh - a very Planescape-ish image.

Cap Negre by sanchezfrance - my new desktop.

Michael Stipe seems to be getting in touch with his Celtic heritage. Is that woad?

I do wonder at the way in which the US Supreme Court situation and some missing troops in Afghanistan are getting more coverage in the US media than either G8 or Live 8. The term "liberal media" that gets chucked around looks like more and more of a red herring.

Who let Jonathon Ross say "Duran Duran" on air?

Sting is onstage, singing "Every Step You Take" while the screens in the background show the faces of G8 leaders. Fantastic.
