I have a single earring in my left ear. It's one of the metal-ring-with-a-ball-on-it ones. I wish to remove it, so that I can wear other, fancier ones. The ball rotates, but doesn't seem to be threaded, so that's not how it comes off. Any ideas, short of a pliers? I have a pliers (somewhere), and will use it if nothing else is suggested - I don't imagine I'll do myself any damage that way, but I'd like to know if there's a less crude method.

Pliers it is. Those are called captive ball rings, and the ball is tension-fitted, meaning that the stiffness of the wire, and the fact that the gap in it is a tiny bit smaller than the ball, holds the ball in.

I'd suggest someone else doing it, and 2 pairs of pliers. Ideally, if you might want to wear it again, pull the ends of the ring out just the slightest bit, then offset them. Your job is to try to see where the ball goes as it pops off and rolls away. :)

I'll try to explain it more clearly if that didn't make sense...

to be honest it is easy to take em off just try putting it back on.

all i do is push sideways on the bal while holding the earing its seld and pushing the ring one way and the ball the other.
