I try not to post to LJ during the working day. But this is so downright fucking evil that it needs to be out there. From an article on MSNBC, I quote:

"The Bush administration is proposing far-reaching changes to conservation policies that would allow hunters, circuses and the pet industry to kill, capture and import animals on the brink of extinction in other countries. Giving Americans access to endangered animals, officials said, would feed the gigantic U.S. demand for live animals, skins, parts and trophies, and generate profits that would allow poor nations to pay for conservation of the remaining animals and their habitat."

I'm sorry, you fucking what? No!

Someone show me where the Bush Lobotomy Fund is. It can only improve things. This is the most half-witted, moronic, idiotic scheme I have ever laid eyes on, and I've seen some doozies.

Not to defend Mr Fuckwad, but this policy is already standard in European countries. I don't know about the UK or Ireland but I suspect as much. Someone want to do research?

I "know", in that nebulous can't quote chapter-and-verse way, that it's illegal to import non-antique ivory here, and I suspect it applies to other things too.

Council Regulation (EEC) No 3626/82 of 3 December 1982 seems relevant:

ARTICLE 6
1 . THE DISPLAY TO THE PUBLIC FOR COMMERCIAL PURPOSES AND THE SALE , KEEPING FOR SALE , OFFERING FOR SALE OR TRANSPORTING FOR SALE OF THE SPECIMENS REFERRED TO IN ARTICLES 2 ( A ) AND 3 ( 1 ) SHALL BE PROHIBITED , SUBJECT TO EXEMPTIONS WHICH MAY BE GRANTED BY THE MEMBER STATES FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS , ACCOUNT BEING TAKEN OF THE OBJECTIVES OF THE CONVENTION AND THE REQUIREMENTS OF COUNCIL DIRECTIVE 79/409/EEC OF 2 APRIL 1979 ON THE CONSERVATION OF WILD BIRDS ( 5 ) :
( A ) THE SPECIMENS ENTERED , IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONVENTION AND BEFORE THIS REGULATION CAME INTO FORCE , THE TERRITORY TO WHICH THIS REGULATION APPLIES ;
( B ) THE SPECIMENS OF AN ANIMAL OR PLANT SPECIES WERE BRED IN CAPTIVITY OR ARTIFICIALLY PROPAGATED , OR ARE PARTS OF SUCH ANIMALS OR PLANTS OR DERIVED THEREFROM ;
( C ) THE SPECIMENS ARE INTENDED FOR RESEARCH , TEACHING , BREEDING OR PROPAGATION PURPOSES ;
( D ) SPECIMENS ORIGINATING FROM A MEMBER STATE WERE REMOVED FROM THE NATURAL STATE UNDER LEGAL PROVISIONS IN FORCE IN THAT MEMBER STATE OR WITH THE APPROVAL OF THE COMPETENT AUTHORITIES OF THAT MEMBER STATE ;
( E ) THE SPECIMENS ENTERED , IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONVENTION AND AFTER THIS REGULATION CAME INTO FORCE , THE TERRITORY TO WHICH THIS REGULATION APPLIES AND WERE NOT USED FOR PURPOSES ESSENTIALLY COMMERCIAL IN NATURE .

Articles 2(A) and 3(1) direct you to the appendices, where there's a good sized list of species.

However, there's a big red "No Longer In Force" at the top of that; I'm trying to see what's current, but I don't really have the legalese for it. I'll be rather surprised if the policies Bush is proposing here are in use in Europe, though.

Isn't that making an unjustifiable assumption?

If there is a nadir of morality, personality, or intelligence, the man is sitting at it. He cannot be pushed down any further, and therefore any movement must be up - an improvement. I suspect that the only reason he hasn't crowned himself King of the World yet is that his advisors keep saying "Not yet, George".

"This and other proposals that pursue conservation through trade would, for example, open the door for American trophy hunters to kill the endangered straight-horned markhor in Pakistan; license the pet industry to import the blue fronted Amazon parrot from Argentina; permit the capture of endangered Asian elephants for U.S. circuses and zoos; and partially resume the trade in African ivory. No U.S. endangered species would be affected."

No U.S. endangered species would be affected? I think this point, clearly shows how hypocrital that propose is. If it´s going to be so good for the endangered species, why don´t they apply it to their animals?. Bush is a liar, a murderer and a madman.

Goth, try chewing on a stick. I prefer to chew a stick instead of grinding a teeth. Reading that article I actually made teeth marks on parrot perch which is lot nicer than the noise teeth make.

I swear, Bush either has had his brain removed utterly or was born without them. Maybe his head has empty space for rent?
