A murder mystery aboard a flying ship.
A journey into the underworld, with all mythic iconography and imagery attached.
Searching for a missing heir at a jousting tourney during the Crown Fair.
A race against a rival party through jungle to an ancient temple, on elephant-back, to retrieve a jewel from an idol therein

Is this worth a poll, maybe?

They're all pretty interesting.

The murder mystery - would the players be bystanders investigating or would one of them have actually committed the murder? If it's one of the players does the player in question actually know it was him or her that carried out the vile deed.

Journey to the underworld - Orpheus or Dante? or a mixture ala Sandman?

Crown fair - always a classic.

The race - real world or fantasy, 19th Century India would be fun.

I couldn't possibly say. :)

The one I know best is the Descent of Inanna, so probably the mixture.

Yeah. It seems to be standard practise to write quirky and different games for cons; this is done so much that an ordinary game becomes retro, cool and quirky.

I was thinking 19th Century India... or more precisely, the Around the World in 80 Days period. It's a pretty rich area for imagery and characters and concepts.

Journey to the underworld - Orpheus or Dante?

I was basically wondering if it was going to be a descent into the realms of the dead or into hell.

I really like that idea.

Ah, I see. There's plenty of good imagery in both, so it'd be a tough choice. Since the players wouldn't have any knowledge of the world beyond what comes up in the adventure, I'd be inclined to go for hell, or something like it - the creatures and people to be met in the realms of the dead wouldn't mean much to them. So Dante, not Orpheus.

I've considered doing a murder mystery before, though not aboard a flying ship. It would certainly make for some interesting plot.

Those sound excellent, though the journey into the underworld sounds like too big an undertaking for a one-shot. You'd really have to pack things in there, or railroad the players.

I really love the race idea. But then, I just got the Indiana Jones boxed set, so I've got pulp in the back of my mind. Have you considered using Adventure! before? Glen should have a copy of that.

Of course, if you're looking to do Around the World in 80 Days with that, it's probably more of a Castle Falkenstein feel. In any case, I'm feeling that one the most.

Murder mysteries work for me. I've even "acted" in one, as has radegund.
