Just going through the teams for the NFL here, prior to posting previews of them, checking the actual name of the team against what's in the database, that kinda stuff. And I was vastly amused to find that out of thirty-two teams in the NFL, thirty-one have nicknames - New York Giants, Geen Bay Packers, and so on. But them Texans.... the "Houston Texans". Way to go on the imagination, guys.

I'm posting about the NFL. Somebody shoot me.

You have to understand... Texas wanted to be its own country. They are xenophobic to the rest of the country. It's pretty scary down there. I can get my friend [livejournal.com profile] lachrymite to back me up on this. So when Texas does its own thing... well, you gotta just sit back and say, "Sure, Texas. Whatever you say."

They do fly the Texas flag right up next to the U.S. around here ;-) (I live in the W. Houston area). Texas used to be it's own country for a short time and has also been owned by something like 5 different countries altogether throughout the course of it's history. It's actually kind of interesting. It would be more interesting if they weren't such assholes about it. (I've only lived here a couple of years).

Hah! Share my pain!

At least you only have to deal with at work, not at home.

NHL

Yes, hockey (I know, you're shocked).

Much more interesting subject ... still, many teams with strange names though. And the Canadians aren't much for originality in that regard, but oh well. Hee hee.

Okay, you've got it worse than me. I'm so sorry for you!

I think it qualifies as a nickname. How many of those guys are really Texans? Probably very few.
