There are lots and lots of communities on LJ, and I can't keep track of them all, so some of these may exist. Also, I'm not looking for community in the sense of conversation, but in the more strictly lj-sense of a place several people can post. Mostly, I want to read these, not post in them.

A "good food" community. [livejournal.com profile] food_porn is nice, but... I'd like to see a community that's almost magazine-ish in its approach, detailing foods, what they taste like, where they come from, what varieties there are, what drinks go well with them - and preferably with pictures. Some of egullet.com's columns are bang on for this.

And the same kind of thing for wine, and perhaps teas and coffees would be excellent. Separately, though, so people can pick and choose what they want to read about, since there are some (poor, misguided souls) who, for instance, don't like wine. Asking for a community like this about cigars is probably impossible.

Likewise, a good steampunk community would be nice. Something with, perhaps, discussion, a scholarly approach, and lots of illustration. Steampunk is a very visual genre. [livejournal.com profile] wintersweet has been talking about some game stuff of late that I'd very much like to see expanded upon in this kind of forum, and [livejournal.com profile] darktor's sketches and photographs would also go well.

And finally, an Irish community that is not crammed with idiotic posts would be good. [livejournal.com profile] ljireland is well intended, but... it's not quite getting there.

I'd also like a community for Irish people that wasn't full of, well, Americans and Anglophobes. Sorry, my personal prejudices are showing.

Do Irish Canadians count? Probably,alas. As for anglophobes. Can't say that I am..would get my SO a bit upset sometimes (she being from Cumbria).

I myself would like to see a good Irish/Gaelic music community.

Well. I could start a steampunk aesthetic type community ...

Wishes granted! [livejournal.com profile] irishminority is run by Irish people, for Irish people, for discussing questions of Irish identity and cultural politics. Please join! We need more members, and the debates are ace!

::sigh:: yes, well the only trouble is, I probably don't qualify for the Irish communities because despite being a 1st generation American in an Irish family... I don't sound Irish, and I've never lived there. Get to visit for the 2nd time in my life this summer though!

As for the steampunk... ::droooooool::

More later, must sleep.

And while I'm at it, how did you find me?
