Is there such a beast as a news (usenet) client that can make sense of binaries? As in put them togther? And indeed, does any news server still carry binaries?

Err, what platform? If you're talking Windows, I remember a couple of newsreaders from Way Back When that were pretty good. One of them, Gravity (http://lightning.prohosting.com/~tbates/gravity/), seems to have been dragged kicking and screaming into the Open Source world after its developer folded. Agent (http://www.forteinc.com/agent/index.php) wasn't too bad either.

I'm sure .binaries groups are still around; I seem to remember hearing recently that a lot of MP3 groups are pretty active.

I'll second the recommendation for Agent.

pixnews can handle hundreds of images at once, you can arrange them in folders and delete them at will, and as for binaries, there are plenty of porn groups out there waiting for your eager clicking :>

Oh yeah, pr0n. I was actually looking for ebooks, but that's probably considered an added benefit...

::giggle:: Agent's the one I use, very nice, even the free version is groovy.
