The weather has been muggy and warm here for days, and is only now cooling to a reasonable temperature. At the same time, it's clouding over with the ragged grey clouds that sometimes signify thunder. I saw three flashes of lightning earlier today - no thunder, just the flashes, bright enough to be seen indoors in the afternoon, and from a sky which, if it wasn't clear, wasn't clouded either.

I'm not sure if autumn is coming in earlier than usual, or not. Every year, I think I should record the date I notice certain things - coolness in the air, rowan berries, chestnuts. But even not knowing the exact dates, those latter two seem early this year.

Are you sure it was lightning? There's a seriously annoying strobe light on one of the Pigeon House towers that flashes 24/7 and is very bright - about 7 times as bright as the old red ones. I can see it in the clouds 8 miles from there, out in Sutton. Apparently a second light is going up on the other tower soon :-(

The first time I saw it, I could have sworn it was lightning.

My mother has been keeping a nature diary for the last 4 years or so, noting when stuff blooms, when she sees the first of a certain animal etc. Very interesting.

Feels like Autumn here, too. [sigh] I love the change of Seasons but... I'm not ready for this one, yet. As if there's anything I can do about that. lol
