I just had a sneezing fit that lasted a good solid three to four minutes. That's a long time, when you're sneezing. I was trying to keep count (an odd habit I have, stemming from an observation made many many years ago that people commonly sneeze an uneven number of times) but I lost it somewhere around fifteen. I'm going to sit here and recover for a bit, I think. The cat is sitting and looking at me; I can't tell if it's "You woke me up, you loud bastard" or "Are you allright? I'm going to need to be let out later, you know, so don't collapse."

I disagree with the even number bit. I counter with my own claim that the nubmer of sneezes tends to a personal constant: a given person usually sneezes a given number of times.

Is there a tradition on fortune-telling on the number of sneezes? In Finnish I know up to four: "ensimmäinen hyvää, toinen pahaa; kolmas rakkautta, neljäs rahaa" -- good, evil/bad, love, money.

I've found the uneven number thing to be complete rubbish since, but the habit of counting is now ingrained. My usual score is three.

So, fifteen... that's three moneys and a love by the time I lost count? Doing good!

That's not a good moment, captured the cat-thought (wonder if she'll post about it later) perectly!

one for a wish, two for a kiss, three for a letter, four for something better - so, no, not always odd numbers.

doesn't that kind of thing violate Irish gun laws? Rapid fire sneezing implement?

Well, blessings-wise, if the devil was going to sneak in while your soul was temporarely blown out your nose, he had plenty of time in more-than-fifteen sneezes, so blessing you now won't help.

Maybe the cat was thinking something of both?
