I can't wait to see the new BBC weather forecasts. Of course, it'll be quite a while before RTE catches up. But still. So cool.

I rather like the diagrammatical simplicity of a symbolic map, myself. It's bound to be pretty impressive though.

I am not the least bit convinced that the approach results in more informative, more comprehensible presentation of information.

But of course that doesn't matter. That it "looks cool" is all that counts for the corporate image persons. No matter that you can't be sure if that cloud is intended to be over there or over here, and if the slanting rain is just a nifty feature or indication of wind or something.

I think it was the Finnish channel four who introduced the "photorealistic 3D moving camera" weather forecast presentations in this country.

A couple of months later they switched back.

Admittedly this was a few years ago; today the developers may have a clearer idea of how to present information in an accessible manner.
