The cat has just spent five minutes begging me, quite persistently, for the last couple of peas from a bowl here. Eventually, I gave them to her, and she ate them with every evidence of enjoyment, and is now sitting partially on the chairback and partially on my shoulder, washing and purring. She likes pistachios as well, but peas are a new one.

From what I recall in my own feline interactions, it's not as much about taste, it's about eating people food, and snatching victory from the plate of the providers. ;)

It's probably cause you're eating them, like the person above said. I've had cats make their best attempt at eating a lighted cigarette just cause I'm attempting to smoke it. They don't do that twice, though.

Cats sometimes love to nibble on grass. Grass - green. No grass growing well, in winter. Smart cat looks for replacement green. Peas - green. Smart cat wants peas.

and is now sitting partially on the chairback and partially on my shoulder, washing and purring.

Oh sigh, I love that mind picture. Makes me miss having a kitty.

I used to have a cat that loved peanuts. But only rosted, non-salted ones. Loved them. Would tear the packet open when we weren't home.

One of my cats goes absolutely mad for olives. He will beg and plead and twitch until he gets one, and then chase it all over the house before finally chomping it. I even caught him on the counter once picking them out of an open jar one by one. The other cat loves shredded lettuce.

...just don't feed her wasabi peas.

The ferrets I lived with for a while loved roasted peas - absolutely adored them. One day, they broke into the container and snatched green goodness away - onlyto find out they'd stolen wasabi peas.

Mittens will gleefully lick any plate that had pizza/pasta sauce/tomato soup on it. Bread is not safe.
But she will not touch meat, or even wet cat food.

Our Ninja is absolutely crazy about peas - I swear, they're her favourite food. The other day we were eating chicken and vegetables, and she was constantly circling us, obviously wanting something. Obviously, we first gave her a bit of chicken, because that's what cats love. But she just smelled it a bit and looked at us with this "what are you, stupid?" kind of look, and proceeded to harass us. Then we gave her peas, and she downed them in a second. Seriously. She left the chicken and ate the peas.
That's ninja for you. She also likes maize and cauliflower, but can't stand carrot and beans.
And Tiuku likes crisps. And apple. At least Miiru is somewhat normal.
