I just spent 15 minutes sharpening a katana so that niallm and radegund can use it to cut a wedding cake. I'm not entirely sure that the scimitar wouldn't have been better, but it's bit grubby.

Katana? Interesting!

My family tradition is to use great-grandpa's calvary saber (the dress one, with the silver plating, not the working one with nicks from People in it). It certainly livens up the reception when Our Family goes from bored and impatient to "So, yeah, they did it too" and the Other Family has, um, wild and varied reactions.

I've seen a bday cake cut with a katana and served up with an entrenching tool.. man that was a good night.
