I'm sure there were things I meant to post about. Can't think what they were, though. I'm currently relaxed and sleepy, unable to think in much more than short words, and looking forward to sleeping very much. Weekends are wonderful things - having put in a few hours work on a website this afternoon, I've done almost nothing since, and needed to do just that to recharge.

Ohyeah. Nina picked up the first six episodes of Robin of Sherwood on DVD on Friday, and we watched the first of them today. I was prepared for it to not be as good as I expected, for the special effects to be bad, the fight scenes cheesy, and generally for the shine to have gone off it in the fifteen years or so since I last saw it. I was so wrong. The special effects - well, there aren't any, really. Bit of mist, a red filter at one point, that's it, and it's better for it. The fights were realistic - no showy maneuvers, no martial arts, just guys trying to get the sharp end of the sword into each other. The setting is perfect. And the plot was fairly solid, down to small details like Robin not knowing how to use a sword. I was charmed, and I'm looking forward to seeing the other episodes now.

Oh oh oh, Robin of Sherwood! I love that series. I know this comes as a shock. It aired on Showtime here in the States when I was in junior high or high school, I forget which, and since then on various PBS stations. I thought they really worked out the Robin of Loxley/Robert, Earl of Huntington situation well, but I'm sure you haven't hit that part yet. :-) Herne at points can look a little cheesy, but hey, it was the '80s. I'd be more jealous if the Errol Flynn movie wasn't on tv earlier today. (Not that I don't own it on video, but can you believe it's not on DVD yet???? I'm so annoyed about that.)

Herne would have looked tacky as hell if they hadn't made it pain that he was just a guy chanelling Herne - and therefore was perfectly okay to have the fake deer head. There are lots of good movies still not on DVD. Wings of Desire for instance, which I've never seen.
