Since starting to try to lose weight, I've knocked off about two stone. This is having the desired effect of letting me buy cheap clothes, but it's having some other odd and in many cases unexpected effects too.

First, I'm losing my insulation, and it's getting cold. I'm having to go over a number of old meditation routines and alter out the ones that deal with bloodflow and keeping warm, which is weird. I used to be able to stand in the old "beer garden" in Fibbers and keep three other people warm, though, when I was smaller before, so I know it can be done.

Second, while I have more energy at the start of the day, when I get tired, I go down like a poleaxed bullock, thud. No reserves of energy anymore.

Third, my body is developing all kinds of weird planes and angles where there were none before. There are inward curves at points on my arms and thighs where there weren't before, and they look fundamentally wrong still. I suspect the shape of my face is changing under the beard as well.

Fourthly, I can now keep up with [livejournal.com profile] olethros silly-fast walking pace, even while carrying a full gaming kit.

I've ditched a little over that amount and I'm finding the same things happening. Furthermore, my back problems seem to have all but vanished, I've gotten a damned sight hairier (which puzzles me) and what mood swings I used to suffer have gone - though that could as easily be to do with self image as chemical issues.
Like yourself, I've got no reserves by the end of the day as a rule (though I *am* reintroducing chocolate into my diet to a small degree to counter that) but during normal waking hours, before 11pm say, my concentration, stamina and ability to keep at physical tasks has improved dramatically.

Fat cells produce estroegen, so less fat = less estroegen = more testosterone dominance = more hair. Admittedly this is guesswork (apart from the first statement, which is fact), but it seems to make sense from a distance.

My guess is less surface area, same number of follicles, therefore more apparent hair?

Nah, this is even on the face, I'm not exactly Mr five O clock shadow but I'm getting to the point where shaving weekly wouldn't be out of order (as opposed to getting a bit shaggy about a month in)

Getting older? Himself is getting hairier around the face too & his weight hasn't really changed.

Weather is due to be wet and windy this weekend. Still ok for coming out for blackberry picking II?

In principle, yes, but how are they looking? There's been plenty of rain since, but not a huge amount of sun.

I haven't actually been out around the fields since, but the roadside ones have gone from "a little bit of black" to "I can just about make out some red in there", so I'd say are chances are good if you fancy it. If not, can be left for another week or another year.

Weather looks nasty. Would we be denying you entertainment for the day if we didn't turn up?

Apologies to you as to your wife for my impatience.

While I do enjoy your company, I understand that torrential rain does somewhat take away from the enjoyment of blackberry picking. Tis no problem. Let me know if you'd like to do it again some time.

and on the planes and angles, yeah, I've found that now that I'm actually at a lower weight through exercise (rather than just having a metabolism that went rarrr through everything I could throw at it (oh, to be twenty again!)), I keep discovering a whole load of actual muscles that I had never seen before.

It's odd. Odd, but good. And kinda cool (impressing people with your biceps is a new and fun experience :)

I had the opposite effect when I did the opposite thing (surprise, surprise).
I used to feel very cold in my arms. Hasn't been a problem for years now!

What've you been doing, GW, to drop that much? That's awesome.

I was lifting weights often last year, but I've gained back the fat and lost the muscle since I stopped. And I'm tired, really tired, of being a fatass on the verge of diabetes. I'm around 250lbs, or.. uh.. 113 kg, or.. 17 some stone. Being 6' helps a little, but it's getting excessive.

Anyways, it's part of the clone deal. I cut my hair, you cut your hair. You get thin and sessy, I get thin and sessy. So, spill it. :)

When I started lifting, within like two weeks I noticed new and interesting muscular bulges, and it's way cool when suddenly the light hits your skin at a certain angle and you see it and go "whoah.. that's.. um.. like what decent TV's have... definition!"

Then you eat cheetos for a year and realise that your picture tube's gone out...

>First, I'm losing my insulation, and it's getting cold.

It's good to hear that you're looking into fixing this. I was in Weight Watchers several years ago, and the same happened to me. I was actually near hypothermia at one point. My system never quite recovered from the time I was losing weight, and I still get abnormally cold from time to time.
