Aaand... one hour later, I have the beginnings of the layout of a page. I'll be doing more with the top left image, I think, if I go with this one, but the basics are here. Comments will be very welcome - and indeed, I could use some; I've no idea if I like that because it's Thor, or I like that because it's starting to look OK. The main image there is "Thor and the Giants", painted by a bloke called W.E. Winge in 1890. It may take a little while to load; it's far from optimised yet.

I like it! Only suggestion - in the block of six images in the top right-hand corner, the first two images of the lower line look like they fit together (are congruent? Something like that... like you cut a picture into segments, and these two were next to each other in the original... sorry, I'm not very coherent today) - since the rest clearly don't, it's a bit odd? That's the only bit I'd alter...

Fair point - they've the same colour along that edge, even though they're from different parts of the main image. I'll trade one of them with another image - or even trade them about - to get rid of that effect.
