I Blame [livejournal.com profile] frostious

Several times over the last couple of weeks, I've gone through a list of traditional Christmas dishes in my head, mentally ticking off things for acquiring or ignoring. We've spent a good number of Christmases in Finland, so things like maksalaatikko and rosolli join turkey, mince pies and sprouts on the list on in my head. I am a little bemused, though, to find that lasagne has snuck onto my mental roll-call of Traditional Christmas Food.

Rosolli without the herring for me, please. And most definitely lanttulaatikko must be included.

That too. Although I've never woken up at night thinking "Mmm, turnips" the same way I have done thinking "Mmm, liver" after the experience of maksalaatikko.

Head explody

Finns should be banned from using k's. And there's bound to be a Vowel Protection League somewhere that should be informed of their activities

I think if you look at English, you'll find that we cheat and use a hard c in many, many places. Besides, the double consonants are split across syllables, which makes a lot more sense that our long consonants.

Actually, as English speakers, we're not in a position to comment on any other language...
