I've just got a third voicemail from a private number. It's a guy with a British-tinged accent who says his name is Victor, and that I'm to call him at [insert foreign number], quoting reference Q42 or the like. Anyone come across this kind of thing before? It reminds me of the "You've won a holiday!" scam calls.

Yep, it's a scam. Like those premium-rate ones, but quite often steps on the 412 scams from Nigeria.

I got one a while ago from a south african sounding bloke asking me to call a dublin number. I never bothered.

Not something I've personally come across, but sounds a tad dodgy. If it's legit, he'd surely say "from X company" and/or "with regard to Y". I certainly wouldn't go calling him back and running up the phone bill!

If he really is on the level, he'll keep trying until he gets hold of you rather than your voice-mail, anyway.
