And indeed, where in this part of the city is good for lunch? There isn’t the same selection of sandwich and coffee shops as Dun Laoghire (or if there is, they’re cunningly concealed). The ideal is a baguette and coffee for five euros or under. A sandwich will do instead of a baguette, and other options will be considered. Somewhere I could sit down for an hour would also be useful, as eating in the office means eating at my desk; we don’t have the nice kitchen table from the old place.

The Pig and Heifer is quite good; it's on Pearse St, about 3 minutes east of Westland Row. I don't think you can sit down though.

There's a place on Westland Row (or Lombard St or whatever it's really called) called Lunch (I think) which does nice food; more that 5 quid I'd say, but you can sit down.

There's also the JCR or even the Hamcaf ;)

I saw the P&H yesterday from a distance; it's on the cards for trying today. The Lunch place may bear some examination; I don't mind paying a little extra if I can sit down. As for the Hamcaf - a certain perversity seems to insist that I should try it again. :)

Don't know Pearse Street very well...

Have you tried The Bagel Factory? They do nice egg-omlette bagels and any coffee for 5 euro, and you can do take-away or eat-in. The National Gallery on Kildare Street has a nice cafe with decent prices, though it's hot food rather than baguettes. Or get a M&S sandwhich (cheap and wonderfully tastey!) and sit in the park?

BTW, would love to meet you sometime but it wonlt be before November as incredibly busy right now.

Well, there's Take5 on the corner of Clare Street and Lincoln Place. And, all of the varied places on Nassau Street. There's also the SeaShell. :)

There's lots of places, but few enough of them would be a fiver (welcome to city center overhead.) It's worthwhile trying to stay out for lunch to avoid lunch-at-desk culture, however, which is endemic here...

Back in the old days (tm) when I was working in Merrion Square, we sometimes went to the Gingerman in Fenian St, and had soup. Nice and warm when it's getting colder outside, and you get to sit down as well. Not that expensive either. Can't recall whether the other pub food was good and/or cheap, though.

The Alliance Francaise do delicious cheap-ish sandwiches (I think they're between four and five euro.) It's a good idea to get there early, though, because they do sell out.
