My ability to concentrate seems to have completely vanished. I can do alright in work, but once I'm out the door, it take direct interaction with other people to keep me going on something. I tried during the week to sit down and do some work on my various websites, and really couldn't hold it together. Again today, I got in a few necessary updates, and then found myself reading back over a gardening blog instead. Earlier in the week, I thought it was because I was trying to work on the desktop, which gets used for games, but today on the laptop, no different. I need to do a chunk of writing in the near future for various games, and I suspect it's going to be a very hard slog.

EDIT: Sod this web thing for a lark. When in doubt, cook.

I'd suggest classical music on ear phones. Mikko and I have found that they help when either of us is trying to write a game or a scenario and has a hard time to concentrate. I had difficulties in the same way, always checking on some little fact and then notice you've drifted for an hour, until I started to play the music on ear phones and only open the one program or window necessary for the task at hand.

I have a thing where I can only really concentrate on my current preoccupation (e.g. it's fruitless to try to progress on my novel if what I really want to be doing is planning my new garden). Takes serious effort - or, let's face it, a looming deadline - to overcome this. So no advice, I'm afraid. But empathy.

Does your New House In Waiting have a GARDEN OMG?

It has indeed, and its OMGness in my mind seems to grow daily. There is a patch of front garden (in which I am not ALL that interested, unless I can maybe get some fruit bushes in there) and then a stretch of back garden which is, by my rough measurement, some 16 metres by 12. That is 192 square metres, a great deal of which will be going into what I think of as real gardening - fruit, vegetables and herbs. According the current rough-and-approximate timeline, we should be in in time for the autumn planting of fruit trees and possibly some other winter crops.
