I had forgotten the pleasures of tinkering around with a profile and an interests list. You'd think that would be an obvious feature for Zuckbook, but it doesn't seem to be.

Dunno. I have enough real life friends and acquaintances, and friends-of-friends who see I'm a [currently writer, formerly steampunk] friending me over there. An interests list might make it overwhelming -- as it is, I fight my way through the algorithms to see the posts from the folks I really want to keep in touch with.

Yeah. I'm not saying it would be good functionality there; plenty of very simple stuff gets mangled a bit on FB. But it does seem like the kind of thing that could be sold to advertisers.

I had the imported interest list from LJ and the thing it drove home was that I was WAYYYY more involved with my spirituality and paganism in general at that time. It's amazing what being physically isolated from your faith community will do. I'm cogitating about that now, I have this imaginary deadline of "when Brian leaves" when I'm theoretically going to change things.

Sounds like a good idea, in general. You could do some planning for that in advance, too.

I did originally import the interests from LJ, and then I nuked them and started over.

Yeah, I just added some but starting from scratch might be a good idea, part of that figuring out where I want to go from here. But that's a not today job.
