Y'know, the BBC try hard to remain fairly un-editorial in their reporting. But I suspect they're taking the piss a little here: Backpacker's 'smart' trek to safet.

Not to be nasty, now, but I've known how to follow streams downhill since I was, what, five? It's not exactly a difficult concept. And "almost impossible" to get out? Sorry, it looks to me like a not-very-bright teenager walked out, which doesn't seem impossible.

Walking alone through mountainous forest - or a forested mountain - without any food, map, compass, or common fricking sense (when she was lost without any basic walking kit, why did she waste battery calling her friend? why not, if she has a phone, make a note of emergency services numbers before leaving and call _them_?) is obviously not enough to darwinate.
