I like to change my desktop backgrounds fairly frequently, and I try to aim for something faintly seasonal. When it rolls around to a new season, I punch in "[season] wallpaper" to google, surf through eight or ten pages of kitsch, and find some decent stuff. "Hallowe'en wallpaper" got some fantastic stuff - hard to choose from.

But can I find some decent Yule / Christmas / Winter Solstice backgrounds? The hell I can. I don't want Santa, and I don't want Rudolph. Neither do nativity scenes grab me. But there seems to be sod all else out there... I may have to make one, at this rate.

Although they're optimized for Macs, the Holiday section at macdesktops.com has some nice ones that can probably be used easily enough on a windoze box (not sure what hoops you'd need to jump through, as I never bother playing with the background on my windows box, as that would mean spending more time on it than necessary).

Have you looked at this one on Digital Blasphemy? Some of my favourite backgrounds have come from here . This guy's stuff is so beautiful that I'm tempted to cough up for membership.

Oooh, I thought it was gone from the free gallery, but this is my current one and one of my all time favourites. Did I mention I love this guy's stuff?

Last time I was looking for seasonal wallpaper, I ended up tiling evil snowmen from the "Lenore" website... :)

webshots is a *wonderful* program that manages your wallpaper, changing it as often/infrequently as you wante it. I have my change daily. You can st it as often as every 15 minutes. and they have LOTS of stuff you can ld for your wallpaer. its *wonderful*.... then you set the lists you want to rotate your wallpaper throuhg.... i love new wallpaer daily... and you can just go in and change it to whatever pict you want. They, however, have their dl gallery set up so that, while you get lots of free stuff, the picts only prety much work for your wallpaper, and cant really be used for anything else. 'course, thats how they get away w/ what they do.
