I'm kind of stunned by this - left staggered, mentally, unable to respond to something so alien to my own morality. There's something wrong with a world where someone can grow up thinking like that.

Yeah, I can't help but laugh when people say, "Well, I don't have anything to worry about, why should I care if they see my library records/monitor my internet use/etc." My response is usually, "How do you know you don't have anything to worry about?" I think they think I'm paranoid, but...
I'm not really into the idea of war at all, but I will say that I'm a hell of a lot more worried about human rights abuses in Iraq than I am about the price of gasoline.
