Back in work after two days off sick with I-don't-know-what-the-hell-that-was. Symptoms were muscles aches, headache, sore throat and complete voice loss. The voice came back fine yesterday after the application of hot tea; this morning it's gone again (went on the train, as far as I can make out - perhaps it's in Bray) and doesn't seem to want to return at all. Otherwise I'm in good order, except for a few sorenesses around the neck. Communicating by writing only is interesting.

The weather today is being bizarre. When I got up, it was raining. There was a brief flurry of snow as I stood waiting for a bus (the most efficient route, bizarrely, appears to be 11, 18, Dart). And now it's sunny outside. The weather forecast is for just plain cold, with wintry showers possible only. That's not what's on the charts according to my reading of them, but I'm not getting my hopes up either.

Haven't been able to think much over the last couple of days, so have played a lot of Morrowind. I'm playing a mage, now level 3, and have spent a great deal of time just wandering across the open spaces of the continent, trying to get to some of the eastern parts, and getting killed by rampaging monsters in a blow or two. At least I'm now tough enough to kill the Cliff Racers before they get me.

Just sent:

Dear Minister Cowen;

I'd like to add my voice to those protesting the American troops and warplanes currently landing and taking off in Shannon. This is a clear, obvious violation of Irish neutrality, and I'd like to hear some explanation of it. In addition, since no explanation of it can possibly justify it, I'd like it to stop.

You are an elected representative of the people of Ireland. The people of Ireland wish their elected representatives to adhere to the constitution. If you believe that that part of the constitution is out of date, please grant us a referendum, rather than taking action without it.

Yours sincerely,
Andrew Shiel.
