I woke up at 06:50 this morning, completely of my own accord, with a brilliant mathematical proof in my mind of the theorem "Getting out of bed is stupid".

I can't remember it now, so I'm going to just leave the statement there, Fermat-style.

I got up at 07:15 this morning, by way of experiment. By now, I've read the LJ entries from the night, read email, read some news, had some tea, and am bright and cheerful and awake, rather than the barely-moving zombie who usually stumbles out the door at 08:00 having woken up five minutes before.

I think I'll try to keep doing this.

Why do spammers think that "As seen on Oprah" is a recommendation?

Of course, the consequence of getting my surfing done at home in the morning is that there's none left to do in work. Since I have the remnants of a minor cold, I decided to take a bus this morning. 48A into town, and then I discovered that the 48A stop is right outside Pearse Street Station. So I think I was actually here a bit faster than walking to Ballsbridge. Although I'll keep walking, as long as the weather is decent and I'm well.
I've been thinking since I set up [livejournal.com profile] davonian about the effective difference between filters and new journals/communities. I'm none too keen on filters, and as ye may have noticed, I don't use them much. This is for a few reasons.

The first one is that people have to know me, be added to my friends list, and watch my journal before they can see the stuff in the hypothetical "games" filter, instead of stumbling across it as they may do with an extra journal or community. There may well be people out there some day who watch [livejournal.com profile] davonian and have no interest in [livejournal.com profile] gothwalk.

The second is that it allows the filtering to be controlled by the end-user, the reader, which is where I believe that filtering belongs. With extra journals/communities, someone can select from, say, my gaming material journal, my gaming commentary journal, my pagan journal, and my day-to-day journal for themselves.

And the third is that I don't much like filters. It says "I only want to talk to these people", when by and large, I want to talk to the whole world - and I don't want to hide what I'm saying. About the only time I use a filter to post something is when I'm posting something for the players in Age of Legends, all of whom use LJ, and for whom it's often a more convenient way to answer questions than email.

So watch out for a few more journals/communities being added...

So far, this afternoon has taken about three days. It's Friday, I want to get out of here, play Age of Legends, and do weekend stuff. Sleep in. Relax. Finish the stuff we need to do with the house. Go to the cinema or someplace tomorrow night.

Time is now proceeding at at rate of ten perceived minutes to one real one.

Apparently, the Pacific nation of Nauru has been cut off from the world for some weeks. You'd think this couldn't happen in the modern world...
