Books bought over the weekend include: Jon Courtenay Grimwood's Effendi (I haven't read anything of his before, but I think I like), and Lois McMaster Bujold's The Curse of Chalion. And I'm currently reading Kim Stanley Robinson's The Years of Rice and Salt, which is bloody brilliant, really.

Overheard in Waterstone's on Dawson Street, woman in smart business suit, speaking of The Years of Rice and Salt: "I was going to get it, but then I saw he was into science fiction and stuff, so I didn't want to look like a nerd." I'm not sure if "he" was KSR or some other bloke...

That's an awful attitude to have about a book. Granted I don't read a lot of genre's because they're just not what I'm into, but acting like the type of book you read has more influence on you than the type of book you're into is just ridiculous.
