I think we really do need a regular heavy trainer in Suil an Oilean - someone who knows what they're doing, knows how it works, and can tell when you're right, wrong or just plain doing a different thing. There are a couple of people around sometimes who can demonstrate stuff, and a couple who can take the time to teach a bit - but they're not the regulars. Of the regulars, only Cernac has any real heavy experience, and even he's still working out the details of how a wrap works, for instance. There's a new guy, Arthur, who's an experienced heavy - but he wants to learn fencing, and there just isn't time for him to do both. And it seems a bit unfair to go "Hey, new guy! Spend all your time teaching us!"

I was working on a plain, ordinary flat snap last night. "Too much arm!" someone said in passing. OK, I reduced the arm, increased the movement from the hip. "Not enough hip!" someone else said. So I upped the hip movement until I'm using most of a tai chi unwinding motion. "Still too much arm!"... but if I reduce the arm any more, I'll drop the stick - I'm not using any arm strength other than that necessary to guide the motion. And nobody seems to be able to tell me where they're seeing the "too much arm", only that it's there. Maybe I should crank up the arm, crank up the hip, and demonstrate what "too much arm" is. Only we've only one pell, and I don't really want to break it, or the sword.

I'll mail Cernac about this, I think, and see what the situation is with Arthur, and if there's any chance of getting one of the experienced heavies in for, say, four to six sessions in a row.

Anyone know if you can freeze risotto? I know it's not going to be quite the same, but would it hurt it much?
